Award winning tapestry artist Patricia Walker has specialized in creating original hand woven tapestries for thirty-five years. At first Ms. Walker blended weaving with a career as a professional athlete - later she focused on the art. While holding a Masters degree in Intercultural Administration, Ms. Walker has studied with textile designer Anita Askild, worked with international tapestry weaver Helena Hernmark and studied with the artist Sam Feinstein.
Using ancient techniques and mixing yarns as if they were paint, she creates wonderful flowing works of contemporary art. Found in both private and public collections her work is experiential in the design process nearly always beginning with the sea. Tapestry has for centuries been used to decorate, absorb sound and demonstrate wealth. Enormous tapestries adorn the walls of castles and cathedrals throughout Europe and the East; as well as corporate lobbies and boardrooms here in the West. Currently, tapestry is enjoying a revival in a more modest size, which has brought it into the modern home.”
"Weaving is about creating and maintaining the harmonizing balance point between rhythm and tension. The poetry of the moments created within those balance points, the sea and the color of musical notes inform the inspiration that drives the creative process for me."
